The article Show Us the Money! discusses the fact that all students do not have equal opportunities or resources that should be afforded to every student. Not every student has access to technology in their home, so at the very least they should be able to have access to educational technology in the classroom. This particular article discusses how to ask for and present your case for your district and students to receive government funds in order to have access to technology in the classroom for the students you teach.
What is important to realize when asking for funding to support classroom technology?
It is important to remember who you are teaching. What kind of resources do your students have? What SES do they come from, are your students in particular need of receiving extra funds for technological purposes. Do you have evidence showing that the extra funding can really help the students in your classroom demographic? It is also important to realize the way you present your case makes a huge difference in the granting of sparse funds.
What are some examples of research that could aid you in being awarded aid for technology?
A comparison between test scores for those schools who have ample technological resources versus schools who have very little would be a good example to use. Also just an overview of the many ways technology could help in the classroom with creativity and learning through k-12th grades could be very convincing.
